John Wick director Chad Stahelski explains whether or not Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin will go to outer space in a future episode.
John Wick Director Chad Stahelski wonders if Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin will ever go to space in an upcoming episode. Released in 2014, the first John Wick The movie was something of a surprise hit, introducing audiences to a sleazy world of international assassins and marking the start of a big comeback for Reeves. John Wick spawned two sequels, both directed by Stahelski, and both were big hits with audiences and critics.
Although the first John Wick was a more contained film, with the action mostly set in New York, its two sequels saw Reeves’ assassin travel to various locations around the world. John Wick: Chapter 2for example, features an extended sequence set in Italy, and John Wick: Chapter 3 also features an extended action scene in Morocco. John Wick: Chapter 4 is apparently getting bigger than any previous installment, with locations including Berlin, Paris, and Japan, in addition to New York, a franchise staple. Where Reeves’ character comes in John Wick: Chapter 5however, remains to be seen.
In a new interview with comicsStahelski explains where John Wick the franchise could see the character go in the future, particularly if Reeves’ character will ever go to space. Surprisingly, Stahelski says he can actually see this happening, although he may not be directing the films at this point. The filmmaker explains that, when it comes to John Wick“sky is the limit“, citing the franchise’s independence from any kind of intellectual property or restrictive source material. For now, however, Stahelski is keen to focus on John’s adventures on Earth. Check out the full commentary from Stahelski below:
“There’s a real possibility that it is. I don’t know if I would pilot the ship, but could the character leave? Even as a fan, I think the world of John Wick is quite fun and interesting “But the sky’s the limit. We’re not coming from an existing IP, so I don’t have to follow Batman lore. I can do anything.”
“If the producers, including myself in the studio, somehow got very smart very quickly and we could continue to be smart about how we handled it and make sure that good people keep going long after my tenure. Yeah. Anything can happen. If Fast & Furious can, I’m sure we can. It might take a little longer, but let’s keep it down for now and try. to continue to do good work here.
While the John Wick The franchise doesn’t immediately look like one that would be at home in space, with elaborate foot chases, car stunts and heaps of “Gun Fu”, Stahelski clearly believes anything is possible. It’s unclear what circumstances would allow Reeves’ character to travel through space, but the director’s commentary suggests it’s likely something that, if it happens, will be down the road when he’s no longer leading the franchise. . Whether Reeves will still be interested in playing the role when Stahelski leaves is another question to consider, with John Wick: Chapter 5 already feeling like a logical end point for his involvement in the franchise.
While Reeves’ character going into space might be a stretch of the imagination, even in the high reality world of John Wick, a derivative property might be able to create a more believable spatial story. Stahelski cites the fast furious as an example of a recent franchise that went to space, but F9: the fast saga largely seems to have disappointed fans who deemed the space scenes a bit too far. Although Stahelski’s comments suggest that the John Wick franchise could go into space, whether or not it does is certainly a whole different matter.
